Voice & Internet FAQs
Connecting Microsoft Teams to your phone system, using business numbers on cell phones, SIP trunking, multi-location systems, eFax, business texting and call routing.
Microsoft Teams can integrate with business calling through appropriately licensed Teams Phone services and supported PSTN connectivity such as Calling Plan, Operator Connect, or Direct Routing. A third-party PBX connection is not automatically supported by every provider or plan. Confirm call features, numbers, licensing, emergency location and routing, SBC requirements where applicable, and support boundaries before deployment.
Many VoIP platforms offer mobile applications that let staff place and receive business calls without exposing a personal mobile number. Features and licensing vary; confirm voicemail, call history, and presence behavior.
SIP trunking provides telephone connectivity to a compatible IP-based PBX over a data connection. Planning includes supported codecs, number routing, capacity, security, and failover behavior.
Yes. A centralized or cloud PBX can support shared dialing plans and call routing across offices. Proper WAN design, emergency locations, and local contingency procedures are important for each site.
eFax services let users send and receive fax documents through supported email or web workflows instead of relying solely on an analog fax machine. Verify number portability, delivery confirmation, file retention, permissions, encryption, and how sensitive documents are handled. For regulated workflows, review the provider’s security and contractual terms before sending protected information.
Some business phone platforms support SMS or other messaging on eligible numbers, including existing business numbers. Availability, brand and campaign registration, consent, opt-out handling, record retention, and carrier policies depend on the messaging use case. Do not assume enabling texting on a number automatically makes marketing messages compliant.
A ring group alerts selected extensions according to a ringing strategy. A call queue holds callers and distributes calls using configured rules. The right feature depends on call volume and staffing.
Many phone services allow predefined forwarding or contingency routing. Test the feature in advance, and confirm whether forwarding depends on the local PBX, internet connection, or the provider network.
Some PBX systems integrate with IP paging devices, amplifiers, or compatible intercom solutions. Review site wiring, speaker zones, emergency requirements, and hardware interoperability.
Verify account ownership, exact service address and billing information, current numbers, linked services, authorization requirements, and desired cutover date. Keep existing lines active until the new setup is tested.
